Welcome to the Snake River Hemophilia and Bleeding Disorders Association.

The Snake River Hemophilia and Bleeding Disorders Association, Inc. was formed in Southeast Idaho in February 2005 by three Idaho families affected with a bleeding disorder. The Association was designed to serve other individuals and families affected by Hemophilia, von Willebrands disease and other bleeding disorders. The main goals of the Association are educating families about bleeding disorders and their treatment options, advocacy for patients for best care, and peer support for both individuals and families.

Hemophilia is a disorder in which the clotting ability of the blood is impaired and excessive bleeding results. About 17,000 Americans have hemophilia. Von Willebrands disease is a deficiency or abnormality of the von Willebrand factor in the blood, a protein that affects platelet function, affecting both women and men. The disease is estimated to occur in 1% to 2% of the population.

Insurance concerns, parental and school support for children with bleeding disorders, sibling issues, treatment options (both concerning medicine and treatment facilities), and extended health-care needs are just some of the issues that affect the bleeding-disorders community. The Snake River Hemophilia and Bleeding Disorders Association, Inc. provides family activities to address each of these issues.
